Promises (Seeking Recognitions), 2010

Canvas, acrylic, electric system and lamps; 18.3’ X 25’ X 10’

Installation conceived for an enclosed room in the Gallery Joyce Yahouda in Montreal. 16 bags are suspended at different heights. Inside, illuminated emptiness, coloured and defined by perforated fabric. Voided letters act as view ports, allowing portions of the text to be read. The walls and floor of the room serve as projection screens. The light of repetitive word motifs spills out to illuminate space. Cycles of blended languages: Spanish and English echoing my French. Words that share Latin roots, similar in many cultures - at some point we no longer know which language we are reading. Family resemblances blur the words’ origins.
